Charles Spero

Charles Spero was a "German" born in 1867. He was convicted of sodomy in Port Townsend, Jefferson County, Washington in 1887. The records of the County noted the conviction as an assault, but the Plaintiff was the "Territory of Washington" rather than an individual man/woman, or parent of a boy, as would normally be in the case of a rape. We will need a copy of the records for more details.

The conviction was recorded in Vol A, Page 9 of the Corrections Department, Penitentiary, Convict Records (1877-1888). This is the first known conviction of sodomy in the State (then Territory) of Washington. He was also listed in the records of Walla Walla Penitentiary as "Inmate # 91".
