Mack McAlpin

Mack McAlpin was born in Iowa in September 1852. In 1889 he was convicted in Chehalis of "Assault to commit the infamous crime against nature" and sentenced to 10 years at Walla Walla Penitentiary. The court records gave his age as 26, which would have been a birth of 1863, but the census record taken in 1892, while he was in prison, give his birth as 1852 in Iowa. His conviction papers also noted his occupations as "barber" and "harness maker".

McAlpin was released early and arrested twice more in 1897 and 1899 for Grand Larceny in King County. This time his age was given as 44 in 1897 (born 1853) and 41 in 1899 (born 1857) in the criminal records, but again the census record while in prison in 1900 gave his birth as 1852.
